Meet Mesa’s New CFO

Meet our new CFO Torque Zubeck! Torque Zubeck was named as Mesa’s new Chief Financial Officer in late September. Zubeck has been working with Mesa since February as Senior Vice President of Finance and he will be taking over the position of CFO from President Michael Lotz and reporting directly to Chairman and CEO Jonathan Ornstein. Lotz will continue his role as President of Mesa and will be involved in the strategic financial direction, corporate strategies, plans, and policies of the company. He will be working closely with Zubeck through the transitional period.

Zubeck began his aviation career as a senior financial planning analyst for Alaska Airlines. He soon became the marketing division controller for Alaska Airlines before getting promoted to the Director of Alliances. After serving for several years in Alliances, Zubeck took on the role of Director of Corporate Financial Planning and Analysis, a position he held for a year and a half before being promoted to Managing Director. Zubeck spent ten years in various managing director roles at the company, such as Alaska Air Cargo and Financial & Strategic Planning. When Alaska Air Group merged with Virgin America in 2016, Zubeck led the integration of the two companies, showcasing his remarkable talents in financial and strategic planning.

Now that you know about Torque’s professional history here are a few fun facts!

  1. He was born and raised in Alaska and where he loved to fly small planes.

  2. His family raised buffalo 🐃 and other farm animals on a small hobby farm/ranch.

  3. While fishing for salmon he once literally snagged a whale (he quickly cut his line).

  4. He met his wife, Jennifer, on the first day of college.

  5. They have two kids, Allison and Joshua.

  6. His favorite vacation destination is Fiji.

  7. He paid for college working construction in Alaska.

  8. His first time visiting Arizona was to play hockey against ASU when he was in college.

  9. He has accomplished a couple of 50+ mile backpacking trips.

  10. Elk burgundy is his favorite meal.
